This Morning viewers were left fuming today as the daughter of multi-millionaire parents Tony and Barrie Drewitt-Barlow bragged about the “obscene” amount she is given as part of her monthly allowance.
Millionaires Tony and Barrie made history in 1999 when they became the first gay couple to father children – twins Saffron and Aspen – by a surrogate mother.
Saffron, 18, appeared on This Morning today with her dads and bragged about the £5,000 she received in pocket money a month from her rich parents, her £1million wardrobe and the luxury cars she owns.
Tony and Barrie moved to Beverley Hills in order to have their first set of twins. Now they are dads to five children and own a larger house than Rihanna, who is also their next door neighbour.
Speaking about her bedroom in the mansion, she described the 1,000 square foot space as being “like [her] own apartment”.
When questioned by Holly Willoughby about whether it was true that she received a £5,000 allowance, she said that it was true.
But she insisted that it wouldn’t be going on forever.
“Yeah it is but from February I’m not going to have that any more because I’ve set up my own cosmetics company – Barking Mad,” she said. But as she tried to continue, Phil stopped her.
After listing off the expensive jewellery her dads had bought her, of which £250,000-worth she was wearing, they asked whether she was worried someone could rob her.
“Not really, to be honest,” she said. Meanwhile, her dad Barrie gushed that she got recognised a lot.
“She does a lot of magazine shoots,” he proudly said.
Phil then asked Saffron whether she thought she was spoilt.
“People think I’m spoilt,” she said. “Over the years I’ve been spoilt [but] I’m very appreciative.”
Her dad Tony admitted that she often spent a lot on the AMEX credit card they had given her and that he often got up to 30 notifications about her spends a day including £50,000 in Harrods.
But Barrie insisted that their daughter was hard-working as she owned her own company and had woken up at 3am to do her make-up.
Yet viewers weren’t entirely convinced and blasted the “spoilt” teen.
One tweeted: “I’m a new mum I wouldn’t even dream about giving my son that amount, he would have to earn his pocket money. #Thismorning.”
While another commented: “Stop justifying it! She’s a spoiled brat, zero personality and only has a successful company because of her daddies money! #ThisMorning.”
A third sarcastically wrote: “up since 3am.. ‘doing her make up’. oh how committed. what a bloody trooper she is…. #ThisMorning.”
One blasted: “I found this obscene. Fair enough, spend it if you’ve got it but both dads bragging (not very humbly either) about their wealth tells you everything you need to know. As for their daughter being appreciative of what they give her? Didn’t get that impression tbh. #ThisMorning.”
However others defended the dads and their daughter Saffron, claiming that critics were just “jealous”.
