Marshall Bruce Mathers III popularly known by his stage name as Eminem is a famous American rapper, songwriter, record producer, record executive, actor and a philanthropist. He is considered as the fastest rapper in the world. He was born on 17th October 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri in the United States of America. He is currently 45 years old. Eminem is the best-selling artiste of the 2000s in the United States of America.
Eminem is the only child of Bruce Marshall Mathers Jr. and Deborah Rae Debbie Nelson. His mother nearly died during her 73-hour labor with him. Eminem’s parents were in a band called Daddy Warbucks, playing in Ramada Inns along the Dakotas Montana border before their final separation.
His father Bruce left the family and moved to California with his other two children namely Michael and Sarah. While his mother Debbie later had a son named Nathan Kane Samara. During his childhood, Eminem and his mother Debbie shuttled between Michigan and Missouri. They stayed in one house for more than a year or two and lived primarily with family members. While in Missouri, they lived in several places, including St. Joseph, Savannah and Kansas City.
Eminem never knew his father, Bruce Marshall Mathers Jr, who abandoned the family when Eminem was still an infant and rebuffed all of his son’s many attempts to contact him during his Eminem teenage and childhood.
As a teenager, Eminem wrote several letters to his father without a feedback. As a child, he was interested in storytelling, aspiring to be a comic-book artist before discovering hip hop. At the age of 14 years old, Eminem began rapping with his high-school friend named Mike Ruby. They adopted the name “Manix” and “M&M” the latter of which evolved into “Eminem”.
Eminem sneaked into neighboring Osborn High School with his friend and fellow rapper Proof for lunchroom freestyle rap battles. On Saturdays, they attended open mic contests at the Hip-Hop Shop on West 7 Mile considered “ground zero” for the Detroit rap scene. While struggling to succeed in a predominantly black industry, Eminem was appreciated by underground hip hop audiences.
Whenever he wrote verses, he wanted most of the words to rhyme. He wrote long words or phrases on paper and worked on rhymes for each syllable. Although the words often made little sense, the drill helped Eminem practice sounds and rhymes. Eminem attended Lincoln High School in Missouri, United States of America and obtained his High School Certificate.
In 1991, Eminem got married to Kimberly Anne Scott and divorced her in 2001. In early 2006, he re-married Kimberly Anne Scott again and divorced her again in late 2006. His marriage with Kimberly Anne Scott is blessed with three children namely Hailie Jade Mathers, Alaina Marie Mathers and Whitney Scott Mathers. Eminem has won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
Throughout his career, Eminem has had 10 number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With 47.4 million albums sold in the United States and 220 million records sold globally. Eminem is among the world’s best-selling artists of all time and is consistently cited as one of the greatest and most influential artists in any genre.
Additionally, he is currently the fastest rapper in the world and the only artist to have eight albums consecutively debut at number one on the Billboard 200. Rolling Stone ranked him 83rd on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time by calling him the “King of Hip Hop”. After his debut albums “Infinite” in 1996 and “Slim Shady EP” in 1997, Eminem alongside with Dr. Dre has been signed to Aftermath Entertainment.
In 1999, Eminem achieved mainstream popularity with the release of his second debut studio album “The Slim Shady LP”, which earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. In addition to his solo career, Eminem is an original member of the Midwest hip hop groups “Soul Intent and D12”.
Eminem has developed other ventures, including Shady Records with manager Paul Rosenberg, which helped launch the careers of popular artist like 50 Cent. Eminem has also established his own channel “Shade 45” on Sirius XM Radio.
In November 2002, Eminem starred in the hip hop film “8 Mile” which won him the Academy Award for Best Original Song for his hit single “Lose Yourself”, becoming the first rap artist to ever win the award. Eminem has made several cameo appearances in several Hollywood movies.
