Mary Data Uranta popularly known as Mary Uranta is a famous Nollywood actress, film producer, investor, model, singer, businesswoman, television personality and a philanthropist. She was born and raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in the south southern part of Nigeria. She is very beautiful, gifted, skillful, creative and talented in acting and interpretation of movie roles and can fit in any character given to her by movie directors and producers in Nigeria.
Mary Uranta grew up primarily in Port Harcourt the capital of Rivers States in the south southern part of Nigeria. She has seven siblings and four step-brothers. Describing her upbringing, Mary Uranta commented that she had a great childhood. She admits that she never had it rough or tough while growing up and confirmed that she is from an average home and a happy family.
Although Mary Uranta was born in a Pentecostal Christian family, she attended Roman Catholic schools. Mary Uranta completed her primary school education at Sacred Heart Nursery and Primary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers States, Nigeria and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate.
After completing her primary school education, Mary Uranta proceeded to Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers States, Nigeria and obtained her West African Senior School Certificate. While still in secondary school she took an interest in both dancing and stage acting and gained a Dance and Drama scholarship upon her graduation from secondary school.
After completing her secondary school education, Mary Uranta was enrolled to Rivers State University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt to pursue a degree in Secretarial Administration. She had aspired to go for a course related to her dream and career which is acting, but ended up studying Secretarial Administration. While at the university, she won the “Finest Girl” award at Miss UST beauty pageants. She had also been placed first runner-up in the Miss Niger Delta contest.
Mary Uranta journey of acting started in 2000 with a minor guest role in the Ndubisi Okoh directed film “Girls Hostel” which she acted alongside with Uche Jombo. She won the role after her first film audition in 2000. She is currently one of the most talented and most gifted actresses in Nigeria.
Mary Uranta has acted in several Nollywood movies which include Paul and Silas, War of Roses, Silver Spoon and Church Committee before taking a break in acting to complete her education. In 2006, Mary Uranta received her first big break role appearing as Ngozi Ezeonu’s younger sister in the movie “Secret Mission” which she acted alongside with Ngozi Ezeonu. Her other Nollywood films include Tea or Coffee, Tears of a Princess, Baits of Doom, The Professionals, Real Passion, Mistress, The Darkest Link, Love Doctor, Critical Passion, Pradah, Secret Shadow and Blood Game, amongst others.
Mary Uranta holds a postgraduate diploma in Theatre Arts, a branch of Performing Arts from the London School of Arts Academy in United Kingdom. In October 2011, Mary Uranta received the African Youth Ambassador Award for her contributions to Nollywood. The following year which was in 2012, she was nominated for Best Actress at the Best of Nollywood Awards for her role in the movie “Mistress”.
On 14th July 2013, she won Best Actress of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards. Aside from being an actress, Mary Uranta is also an entrepreneur, that same year, which was in 2012, she launched her film production company named “50th Academy” which she created to aid the industry’s growth.
That same years which was in 2012, she also launched her charity organization known as “Mary Uranta Foundation” which caters for the welfare of deprived children and helps improve the lives of underprivileged children in Opobo. That same year, which is in 2012, Mary Uranta became the new face of RedKarpet Photography based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
