Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe popularly known by his stage name as Wande Coal is a famous Nigerian singer, songwriter, stage performer, recording artiste and a model. He was born on 18th October 1985 in Lagos Island, Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria. He is currently 32 years old.
He is very handsome, gifted, skillful, creative and talented. His father’s name is Chief Ibukun Olufunto while his mother’s name is Omolara Oluwayemisi Ojosipe. He is the first child in a family of two children. Wande Coal had his basic education at Staff Nursery and Ijaniki Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. After completing his primary school education, Wande Coal proceeded to Federal Government College in Lagos, Nigeria and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing his secondary school education, Wande Coal proceeded to University of Lagos (Unilag) in Lagos State, Nigeria and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Curriculum Studies. Wande Coal started singing as a teenager and joined the choir at his local church in Lagos, Nigeria. He got his break in the Nigerian entertainment industry as a dancer. In 2006, he was signed to Mo’Hits Records by Don Jazzy and D’banj.
He became very popular after featuring on D’banj album “Rundown/Funk you up” and releases hit singles with D’banj such as “Loke”, “tonosibe” and “why me”. As a member of the Mo’ Hits all stars, Wande Coal played a major role in the release of the Mo’Hits popular album “Curriculum Vitae”. His first single of the “Curriculum Vitae” album was “Ololufe” which has been described as one of the greatest love songs ever written by a Nigerian.
In 2009, Wande Coal released his debut studio album “Mushin to Mo’Hits” which was widely received across Nigeria, United Kingdom and the United States of America. Wande Coal has collaborated with top Nigerian artists like Ikechukwu, Naeto C, Dr SID, D’Prince, Wizkid, Olamide, Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, amongst others. In 2012 following a fallout between record label Executives Don Jazzy and D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr SID and D’Prince signed on to Don Jazzy’s new record label Mavin Records with the addition of Tiwa Savage from 323 entertainment who is currently the first lady of Mavin Records.
In 2013, Wande Coal left Mavin Records and formed his own record label known as “Black Diamond Entertainment”. In October 2013, Wande Coal released a hit single called “Baby Face” under his record label “Black Diamond Entertainment”.
In 2015, Wande Coal released his second debut studio album “Wanted” with hit singles like Rotate, The Kick, My Way, Baby Hello and Iskaba, Baby Face, amongst others. Most reviews of his second studio album “Wanted” placed him on a slightly above average scale. In December 2017, Wande Coal released a new single “Turkey Nla”.
Wande Coal in the cause of his career as an artiste has won several awards. In 2008, he won the award for Next Rated at the Hip Hop World Awards and Naija’s Fastest Rising Superstar at the UNIPORT Awards. In 2009, he won the award for Song of the Year at the Dynamix Youth Awards, Best Afro Hip Hop Video of the Year at the Nigerian Music Video Awards and Best Rhythm and Blues Singer of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards.
In 2010, he won the award for African Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards, Artiste of the Year at the Hip Hop World Awards, Best R&B/Pop Single at the Hip Hop World Awards, Album of the Year at the Hip Hop World Awards, Song of the Year at the Hip Hop World Awards and Hip Hop Revelation of the Year at the Hip Hop World Awards.
In 2010, he also won the award for Album of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards, Outstanding Performance in the Music Industry at the City People Entertainment Awards and Artist of Year at the City People Entertainment Awards.
Wande Coal is currently one of the richest and most influential artiste in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $1.7 million.
